The term NEFT stands for National Electronic Funds Transfer and it is solely maintained by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Initially started in November 2015, it was established and managed by Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT). NEFT helps bank customers in India to transfer funds between any of the two NEFT enabled bank accounts on a one – to – one basis using the electronic messages. The fund transfer in NEFT is settled in half-hourly batches with 23 settlements happening between morning 8:00 until 7:00 in the evening during weekdays and on first, third and fifth Saturday’s of a calendar month. If in case, a transfer has been initiated post the above given time, then it will be settled in the next available window. There will be no settlements done on the second and fourth Saturday or Sundays of the month or during public holidays.
